Meet Tango and Cash!

Meet the newest members of the family: Tango and Cash. Red and I adopted them, and Red brought them home Saturday afternoon. These kittens are 5 months old. They were born at the Humane Society, but mama kitty and 5 kittens were rescued by a group called Town Cats, a no-kill non-profit organization. The Humane Society found/trapped mama kitty and wanted to spay her right away even though she was very pregnant. This meant that the kittens would have been aborted. How sad. But mama kitty, another beautiful black cat, gave birth that night to 5 kittens. We were told that one of the kittens got sick and lived only a couple of weeks. But the other 4 were healthy. Why weren't they adopted sooner? I really don't know. Maybe it was meant for us to have them. Tango and Cash's other brother and sister were adopted a week or two earlier. Cash is a male -- below he is the one in the front with the white chin. Tango is female and seemed to be a bit timid at first, but she and Cash have certainly become "at home" here in our home.
Here is another photo of Tango.
And this is another photo of Cash. We think Cash is going to be the "clown."
Here is a video I shot earlier tonight of Cash playing with a felt toy. I apologize for the poor quality, especially how dark it looks. For some unknown reason Google processes all videos on the dark side. Maybe I'll have to start putting my videos on You Tube; maybe then they won't come out so dark. Hey, Google, are you listening?

Beautiful cats, Mary. So glad they have a loving home. Only one of the four we have has been adopted but the others will have a home with us no matter what.

I'm so happy for you and Red and especially for these sweet rescued kities. They couldn't have asked for a better new home.

They are so cute! We adopted litter mates from the humane society but they were a year old, this was about 8 years ago. They get along so well and still play together all the time. Siblings make great pets! Yours are just beautiful.

What beautiful cats, I'm glad they have a home with you. We have two cats from the Humane Society, adopted 9 years ago. I can't imagine life without them.

I have never had a cat, but these ones are beautiful. YouTube video quality is far superior to Google. And you have a choice of high or low quality viewing depending on your internet speed.

I believe they were meant for us! I saw them a month ago online and can't believe they were still available last week. It was God's plan :D

Thanks, Wren. I guess it's been too long since we had kittens. There's something very charming about them.

Thanks, Martha. Don't you think they look a little like your little ones? I sure hope you can find homes for the others. If not, like you said, they'll always have a home with you. I can't imagine giving up kittens after you've had them around awhile.

Thanks, Lynne. I really think they were meant for us to love and cherish.

Linda, I'm so glad you could adopt litter mates at the Humane Society. I can see how important it is for them to have somebody the same age to play with.

Hi Jan. It looks like 9 years ago was a banner year to adopt cats at the Humane Societies! I adopted one back then, and Linda (above) did, too. But I feel a little sad for our Tornado. Since we lost Avalanche, Tornado seems lonely. Avalanche's sisters are 12 years old and don't want to be around him. And I know it's only been a couple days, but I get the feeling Tornado doesn't want to accept these little kittens. But I'm still hopeful that all will adjust in the near future.

Thanks, Ruth. I think I'm gonna check out using You Tube. As you said the quality is so much better.

Red--Amen to that! ;o) I really do believe we were all meant for each other.

Congrats on your new kitties! It's nice that you have 2 of them - they'll enjoy playing together!

Thanks, Shelley. Yes, they definitely do enjoy playing together. I still hope that they will eventually be accepted by the older cats in our household, especially my little one, Tornado, who misses his friend Avalanche.

Oh Mary, those kitties are so funny! I love to watch them play. I think it looks neat when black kitties have white whiskers. Did you guys choose their names or are those the names they came with?

Hey I like that crocheted rug too--did you make it? Do you still have the pattern?

Mary C said...

Ruthie, we adopted them with those names. Since I'm not familiar with the movie (Red is) I probably would have named them something else. But Red likes their names.

Yes, I crocheted those little scatter rugs. I think I have the pattern, or I may have just created it myself by crocheting so many rounds of one color and then go on to another color. Knowing me I probably modified a pattern I had.

Yay, Mary! I'm sorry I've been in hiding and missed your new arrivals!

Tango and Cash. So sweet. You needed this...

Mary, I have heard that black cats are the hardest to get adopted just because they are black. Many people are still supertitious about black cats and many others just want someting more colorful. Tiger-striped or tabby cats are the second hardest to find homes for. I'm so glad you took in these two darlings.

Thanks, Mary!

Kathie - I guess I hadn't heard that before about black cats being so difficult to adopt. I am so glad that these little ones are among the living. According to the organization we adopted them from (TownCats.org) mama kitty, also black, was picked up by the Humane Society and was going to be spayed, but then they found out she was VERY pregnant and she had the kittens overnight. I think I had heard that mama and kitties were going to be euthanized or mama was still going to be spayed despite her pregnancy. But TownCats stepped in and took them all in and found homes for all the kittens. I haven't heard if mama has been adopted yet. Personally, I probably would have preferred adopting mama, but I wouldn't dream of giving up the little ones now! ;o)

We have a white-chinned black kitten, too. Max.
My husband thinks he looks like the Phantom of the Opera!

I always appreciate those who take in a rescued animal. Bravo!

Hi Nina - thanks for stopping by and commenting. I'd love to see a picture of Max. Phantom of the Opera? Mmmm, that's interesting. That white chin of Cash's is the best way for us to ID him from Tango. We think his white patch reminds us of a goatee. ;o) Rescued animals is the way to go!
