Lilies in May

The month of May we experienced a multitude of color from most of our plants. Here are some of my daylilies I was quite pleased with. For years I had all of my lilies in pots, but finally, last year we put them in the ground. We planted all the daylilies around our crepe myrtle tree, and they apparently love their location. Here are a few photos I took during the last half of May.

If you look closely you will see a spider inside the calla lily blossom.
And here is a big bee getting into one of the Stella d'oro daylilies. These daylilies are planted in the parking strip. The purple blossoms in the background is the wooly thyme at the peak of its blossoms.

OOOOh, you have some gorgeous lilies! I love the red ones. Our day lilies just started blooming this past week. They are scattered across fields and roadsides as they grow wild here but I bought some hybrids for my garden. I think they call the wild ones Farmer's Lilies and they are usually the gold-colored ones not nearly as pretty as yours. I love your calla lily. That spider found himself a pretty good home.

Ours are in full bloom and at their most beautiful now, too. We have some that are a light pink, and a few Stella d'Oro.

Thanks, everyone! It's so interesting to note that everyone else is enjoying their lilies now. Even though these were blooming in May, my lilies are still putting out blossoms everyday, but I'm noticing that they are slowing down a little.

Mary, I love your daylilies! I was just starting to get a collection of them in Utah before I moved down here. Thanks for stopping by my blog and for your kind words. They are a great encouragement to me.

Thanks, Leedra. I'm pleased with the ones I have, but you certainly have many exquisite ones, and I'm so glad you share the photos.

Hi Kathie - thank you. I guess daylilies wouldn't do too well in your area, but you have lots of other beautiful plants in the desert that I love, too. I always enjoy stopping by and reading your blog.

Hi Mary, your lilies are beautiful. I'm always impressed by the vivid colors so many lilies have. Your garden looks like a very colorful place to be.

Thanks, Zhakee. I do like a variety of color and plant forms/shapes. Even though we have what is called a postage-stamp sized lot, we do try to get as much flora around as possible. It certainly helps if one does not have any lawn -- got lots of room that way to "fill-in."
