Skywatch Friday # 26

Under a beautiful blue sky in New Mexico you can see snow geese in flight. This was taken at the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in November during the Festival of the Cranes.

Mary: Beautiful capture of the Snow Geese in the sky.
Take care when adding your link, it went to a heron post which may have limited the visits. I will fix it. FG Sky Watch Team

The black-tipped white against the deep blue sky is lovely. Birds in flight are a challenge for me.

Lovely photo of the snow geese! You must have had your camera ready for the perfect shot. ;-)

Lovely photo of the geese flying. I love how they honk when they fly. They seem so large to be so graceful flying.

Ruth - thank you. Thanks for mentioning that everyone should click on it to see a larger image. I forgot (in my haste to post it) to mention that. Did you notice one of them was darker than the others?

RuthH- thank you. Heading south? Hard to say, but you gave me a chuckle about pushing the spring migration. Hang in there my friend. You will probably have to deal with plenty more winter yet. But keep posting your flowers from spring and summer and we'll all "dream" spring. ;o)

FG - thank you. I don't know what happened, but thank you for fixing the link.

Hi Lynne - birds in flight are a challenge to me, too. And when I do get a decent photo of them I know I have to post it to share with everyone.

DigitalP - thanks for stopping by and commenting. I still need to stop by and comment on others. I'll be sure to stop by your post.

YourEG... - thank you for stopping by and commenting. You can say I was ready and had my camera ready. I sort of knew that eventually a flock would take off. I just needed to be patient and have my camera with the right settings.

Hi Linda - I didn't actually hear them honking when they took flight. I think they have a different sound than other geese (namely Can. geese). Can you imagine the sound of these birds PLUS the sound of sandhill cranes when they are all in flight? Very noisy!! ;o)

Great photo...esp enlarged!

Only thing that would have made it better would be the Snow Geese flying beneath a sunset lit sky!

Greg and imac - thank you for stopping by and commenting. I'll be by to visit your site soon.

Wren - thank you. Yes, it was a really good trip.

Carol - thank you.

Red - a sunset photo with geese in flight sounds really nice. But it's not always likely. I'm not sure I could have gotten the geese in focus if it were that dark. You gotta remember I'm still learning how to use my DSLR. I'm not sure I'll ever master it. ;o)

Mary, very Nice! Gus and I stopped there on our way home from Christmas in Colorado. How marvelous to see all the birds. I haven't had time to post any of those photos yet!

Oh, I don't know that I could take one either... but I happened to have seen one just like yours but with a pink/red sky on Webshots Pro.

Kathie - I'm so glad you had the chance to visit. I'll be looking forward to your photos and all you will have to say about it. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Arija - thank you!

Red - thanks for letting me know. I'll have to check it out. I'm sure it is a beautiful shot.

Hi Nina - thanks so much for stopping by and commenting. I hope someday you'll have the opportunity to visit Bosque del Apache. BTW, you may want to visit Kathiesbirds (Sycamore Canyon). She visited there recently and will probably post her photos in the near future.

Wow, they're pretty Mary! I would like to see some snow geese flying in formation some day.

Hi Ruthie - I think you'll see some snow geese when you come out to visit your brother - and hopefully you'll catch them when they take flight.

I did click to enlarge, as the 1st person to comment suggested. (Actually didn't read the other comments, not sure why I saw that one.) They are in the V formation, just not a great one. They need a leader.

I have started a 2nd blog, it is the one I will be posting daily now. Hope you will follow it.
